General situation of aramid fiber

Kevlar (Kevlar) is actually the name of a product of DuPont, which is a kind of polymer material. Its chemical name is “poly (terephthalamide)”, commonly known as “aramid fiber”.

Aramid is the general name of aromatic polyamide. Compared with common polyamide materials such as nylon 6 and nylon 66, aramid has excellent properties such as ultra-high strength, high modulus and high temperature resistance because the relatively soft carbon chain in the molecular chain is replaced by the rigid benzene ring structure. There are many kinds of aramid fibers, and aramid fiber 1313 and aramid fiber 1414 are widely used. Kevlar corresponds to aramid fiber 1414. The chemical name of aramid fiber 1313 is polyphthalamide, which is an excellent fireproof material.

At present, the annual demand of para-aramid fiber (aramid fiber 1414) in China is more than 5,000 tons, mainly relying on imports, and the market price is relatively high, about 200,000 yuan/ton. The main producers are DuPont in the United States and Teijin in Japan.

As for m-aramid fiber (aramid fiber 1313), “Taimeida” produced by Yantai Taihe New Materials Co., Ltd. has the second highest market share in the world and has a strong market competitiveness. The global suppliers of m-aramid fiber are mainly DuPont in the United States and Teijin in Japan. Dupont has the highest market share and rich product specifications, and is still a global industry leader.
