Safety is no trivial matter, beware of non-standard use of rope!

From cotton, hemp to nylon, aramid, and polymer, different rope fibers determine the difference in rope strength, elongation, corrosion resistance and friction resistance. In order to ensure that the rope can be used effectively in mooring, firefighting, mountaineering, etc., it should be reasonably selected according to its characteristics and safety requirements, abide by the use specifications, and be alert to irregular use of the rope.

· Mooring lines

Mooring lines are an important part of the mooring system and are used to secure the vessel against the effects of wind, current and tidal forces in standard environmental conditions while the vessel is at anchor. The accident hazard caused by the breakage of the mooring rope under stress is relatively serious, so the requirements for the rigidity, bending fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance and elongation of the rope are extremely strict.

UHMWPE ropes are the first choice for mooring ropes. Under the same strength, the weight is 1/7 of the traditional steel wire rope, and it can float in the water. Variety of constructions and rope coatings that can be used to improve the performance of the rope in the intended application. In practical applications, the cable breakage caused by natural factors or improper human operation cannot be ignored, which may cause serious personal injury and equipment damage.

The safe use of mooring ropes should include but not limited to the following aspects: select ropes according to the design breaking force of the ship, so that each rope is in a suitable stress position; pay attention to the maintenance of ropes, check the conditions of ropes regularly; adjust the mooring in time according to the weather and sea conditions Mooring scheme; develop crew safety awareness.

·Fire rope

Fire safety rope is one of the key components of anti-fall equipment for fire fighting. Fire-fighting rope is a special safety rope, and the strength, elongation and high temperature resistance of the rope are important factors.

Fire safety rope material is inner core steel wire rope, outer braided fiber layer. Aramid fiber can withstand high temperature of 400 degrees, high strength, wear resistance, mildew resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and is the first choice for fire protection ropes.

The fire escape rope is a static rope with very low ductility, so it can only be used as an abseil. Both ends of the safety rope should be properly terminated and the rope loop structure should be used. And tie a 50mm seam with a string of the same material, heat seal the seam, and wrap the seam with a tightly wrapped rubber or plastic sleeve.

·Climbing rope

Mountaineering rope is the most important equipment in mountaineering, and various mountaineering techniques such as ascent, descent and protection are developed around it. The impact force, ductility and number of falls of the climbing rope are three crucial technical parameters.

Modern climbing ropes all use net ropes with a layer of outer net on the outside of several strands of twisted ropes, rather than ordinary nylon ropes. The flower rope is a power rope, and the ductility is less than 8%. The power rope must be used for projects with the possibility of power fall, such as rock climbing, mountaineering, and descending. The white rope is a static rope with a ductility of less than 1%, or is regarded as zero ductility in an ideal state.

Not all climbing ropes can be used alone. The ropes marked with UIAA① can be used alone in areas that are not too steep. The diameter of the rope is about 8mm and the strength of the ropes marked with UIAA is insufficient. Only two ropes can be used at the same time.

Rope is one of the tools for special operations. Practitioners should recognize the importance and necessity of using rope safely, strictly control each link of rope use, and minimize risks, thereby promoting the safety and sustainable development of the industry.
