Type of rope

From cotton and hemp to nylon, aramid, and polymers, different materials and processes determine the difference in rope strength, elongation, corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance. In order to ensure the safe and effective use of ropes in safety, marine, military, mooring, firefighting, mountaineering, off-road and other fields, reasonable selection should be made according to the characteristics and safety requirements of the ropes, the use specifications should be followed, and attention should be paid to the non-standard use of ropes. Below, the types and uses of commonly used ropes are explained in detail according to the different fields.

climbing rope

Mountaineering rope is an important equipment in mountaineering, and its core is mountaineering techniques such as ascent, reduction and protection. The nature of the climbing rope and the charging time are three very important performance parameters.

Modern climbing ropes are all used to add a layer of mesh rope on top of a few twisted ropes, not ordinary nylon ropes. The flower rope is a power rope, and the ductility is less than 8%. Power ropes must be used for projects where power falls may occur, such as rock climbing, mountaineering, reduction, etc. Generally speaking, white ropes are static ropes with ductility less than 1%, or zero ductility in ideal conditions. Generally used for caving in mountaineering, road repair ropes and industrial use.

Not all climbing ropes can be used alone. The word UIAA① marked on the rope head can be used alone in areas that are not too steep. The diameter is up to 8mm. Only the rope marked with UIAA is not strong enough, and only double ropes can be used at the same time.

Off-road series tow rope

Off-road series usually have off-road trailer rope, off-road winch rope and off-road soft shackle. The trailer rope is generally made of polyester nylon, with two-layer braided structure, which is strong and wear-resistant; the off-road winch rope can be used for off-road vehicles with electric winches for off-road self-rescue. The material is UHMWPE; the soft shackle is made of UHMWPE fiber and is used to connect the trailer rope to the body.

mooring rope

Mooring lines are an essential part of the mooring system and are used to secure the vessel to ensure effective resistance to the effects of wind, flow and tidal forces under standard ambient conditions during docking. The accident caused by the breakage of the mooring rope under stress conditions is serious, so the requirements for the rigidity, bending fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance and elongation of the rope are extremely strict.

UHMWPE rope is the mooring cable of choice. Under the same strength, the weight is 1/7 of the traditional steel wire rope, and it can float in the water. Various constructions and rope coatings are available to enhance the performance of the cable in the intended application. In practical applications, the cable breakage caused by natural factors or improper human operation cannot be ignored, which may cause serious personal injury and equipment damage.

The safe operation of mooring ropes should include but not limited to the following aspects: select cables according to the design breaking force of the ship, so that each rope is in an appropriate stress position; pay attention to the maintenance of the ropes and check the condition of the cables regularly; make timely corrections according to the climate and sea conditions Mooring cable scheme; develop crew safety awareness.

fire rope

The safety fire rope is one of the core components of the fire protection fall prevention equipment, and is only used for fire rescue, rescue rescue or daily training. According to the diameter, it is generally divided into light safety ropes, general safety ropes and self-rescue safety ropes. Common materials for safety fire ropes can be divided into polyester, nylon, and aramid. Fire rope is a special kind of safety rope, rope strength, elongation and high temperature resistance are the key factors.

safety fire rope

The safety fire rope material also includes the rope and outer fiber layers with the addition of a steel rope core. Aramid fiber can withstand high temperature of 400 degrees, high strength, wear resistance, mildew resistance, acid and alkali resistance, is a very good choice for fire ropes.

The fire-fighting rope is a static rope (the difference between a dynamic rope and a static rope), which has low ductility and can only be used for abseiling. Both ends of the safety rope should be properly finished and the rope loop construction selected. Sew 50mm with rope of the same material, wrap a rubber or plastic sleeve around the seam for heat sealing.

Rope is one of the tools for special types of work. Practitioners should recognize the importance and importance of safe rope operation, strictly control all aspects of rope use, and minimize risks, thereby promoting the safety and sustainable development of the industry.
