Application of polytetrafluoroethylene

PTFE has excellent high and low temperature performance, chemical stability, good electrical insulation, non-adhesion, weather resistance, incombustibility and good lubricity. It has been used in aerospace fields to a wide range of daily commodities, and has become an indispensable material to solve many key technologies in modern science and technology, military industry and civil use.
Application in anticorrosion and wear reduction According to the relevant statistics of developed countries, the economic loss caused by corrosion accounts for about 4% of the gross national economic output value every year in today’s industrialized countries. A considerable number of accidents in chemical production are caused by chemical reactions caused by equipment corrosion and medium leakage. It can be seen that the loss and harm caused by corrosion are serious, which has aroused people’s extensive attention.
PTFE overcomes the disadvantages of common plastics, metals, graphite and ceramics, such as poor corrosion resistance and flexibility. With its excellent high and low temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, PTFE can be used in harsh conditions such as temperature, pressure and medium, and has become the main corrosion-resistant material in petroleum, chemical, textile and other industries. PTFE pipe is mainly used as the conveying pipe and exhaust pipe of corrosive gas, liquid, steam or chemicals. The push pipe made of PTFE dispersion resin is lined into the steel pipe to form a lining, or the PTFE push inner pipe is reinforced by winding glass fiber, or the PTFE push pipe is reinforced by weaving and winding steel wire, which can transfer liquid medium under high pressure. As an indispensable part of hydraulic transmission, it can greatly improve the rupture strength at high temperature and have good bending fatigue. Because the friction coefficient of PTFE material is the lowest among known solid materials, it makes filled PTFE material the most ideal material for oil-free lubrication of mechanical equipment parts. For example, the equipment in the industrial fields of paper-making, textile, food, etc. is easily polluted by lubricating oil, so filling PTFE material solves this problem. In addition, the experiment proves that adding a certain amount of solid additives to engine oil can effectively save about 5% of engine fuel oil.
Another major application of corrosion-resistant sealing material PTFE in chemical industry is sealing material. Because of its good comprehensive performance, PTFE is incomparable to any kind of sealing material. It can be used for sealing in various harsh occasions, especially when high temperature and corrosion resistance are required.
Teflon tape has long fiber, high strength, high plasticity and good calendability, and can be completely sealed by applying a small pressing force. It is convenient to operate and apply, and it is more efficient when used on uneven or precise surfaces. It has good sealing performance, can improve corrosion resistance and expand its application range. PTFE packing is used for the sealing of sliding parts, which can obtain good corrosion resistance and stability, and it has certain compressibility and resilience, and small resistance when sliding. Filled PTFE sealing material has a wide range of application temperature, which is the main substitute of the traditional asbestos gasket material at present. It also has the properties of high modulus, high strength, creep resistance, fatigue resistance, high thermal conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion and friction, etc. Adding different fillers can expand the application range.
