Basic requirements of safety rope

Safety rope is protective equipment to prevent workers from falling from heights. Because the greater the height of the fall, the greater the impact. Therefore, the safety rope must meet the following two basic conditions:

(1) It must have enough strength to bear the impact force when the human body falls;

The safety rope (2) can prevent the human body from falling to a certain limit that can cause injury (that is, it should be able to pick up the human body before this limit, and it will not fall down again). This condition needs to be re-explained. When the human body falls down from a height, if it exceeds a certain limit, even if the human body is pulled by a rope, the impact force it receives is too great, and the internal organs of the human body will be damaged and die. Therefore, the length of the rope should not be too long, and there should be a certain limit.

In terms of strength, safety ropes usually have two strength indexes, namely, tensile strength and impact strength. The national standard requires that the tensile strength (ultimate tensile force) of seat belts and their strings must be greater than the longitudinal tensile force caused by human weight in the direction of falling.

Impact strength requires the impact strength of safety ropes and accessories, which must be able to withstand the impact force caused by the falling of human body. Usually, the impact force is mainly determined by the weight of the falling person and the falling distance (i.e. the impact distance), and the falling distance is closely related to the length of the safety rope. The longer the lanyard, the greater the impact distance and the greater the impact force. Theory proves that the human body will be injured if it is impacted by 900kg. Therefore, on the premise of ensuring the operation activities, the length of the safety rope should be limited to the shortest range.

According to the national standard, the rope length of safety rope is set at 0.5-3m according to different uses. If the safety belt is suspended at high altitude and the rope length is 3m, the impact load of 84kg will reach 6.5N, which is about one third less than the impact force of injury, thus ensuring safety.

Safety rope must be checked before use. Stop using it if it is damaged. When wearing it, the movable clip should be fastened, and it should not contact with open flame or chemicals.
