Detailed explanation of sewing thread

Sewing thread is used to sew all kinds of shoes, bags, toys, clothing fabrics and other auxiliary materials, which has two functions: useful and decorative. The quality of stitching not only affects the sewing effect and processing cost, but also affects the appearance quality of products. People engaged in the clothing industry must understand the general concept of stitch composition, twist, the connection between twist and strength, stitch classification, characteristics and main uses, stitch selection and other common sense. The following is a brief introduction:

First, the concept of thread threading (carding) refers to the yarn that is woven only by cleaning one end. Combing refers to the yarn that is cleaned at both ends of the fiber with a combing machine. The impurities have been removed and the fiber is more straight. Blending refers to the yarn in which two or more fibers with different properties are mixed together. Single yarn refers to the yarn directly formed on the spinning frame, which will spread out once it is untwisted. Stranded yarn refers to two or more yarns twisted together, which is called thread for short. Sewing thread refers to the general name of thread used for sewing clothes and other sewn products. New-style spinning is different from traditional ring spinning, and one end is at rest, such as air spinning and conflict spinning. The yarns are intertwined without twist. Yarn count is used to indicate the fineness of yarn, mainly including English count, metric count, special count and denier.

Second, about the concept of twist: after twisting the fiber structure of the line, the relative angular displacement occurs between the cross sections of the line, and the straight fiber inclines with the axis to change the structure of the line. Twisting can make the thread have certain physical and mechanical functions, such as strength, elasticity, elongation, luster, hand feeling, etc. It is indicated by the number of twists per unit length, usually the number of turns per inch (T.P.I) or the number of turns per meter (T.P.M). Twist: 360 degrees around the axis is a twist. Twist direction (S-direction or Z-direction): the inclined direction of the spiral formed by rotating around the axis when the yarn is straight. The oblique direction of the twist direction of S is together with the middle of the letter S, that is, the right hand direction or clockwise direction. The tilt direction of the Z twist direction is together with the middle of the letter Z, that is, the left-hand direction or the counterclockwise direction. The connection between twist and strength: the twist of the thread is directly proportional to the strength, but after a certain twist, the strength decreases. If the twist is too large, the twist angle will increase, and the luster and feel of the thread will be poor; Too small twist, hairiness and loose hand feel. This is because the twist increases, the conflict resistance between fibers increases, and the strength of the thread increases. However, with the increase of twist, the axial component of yarn becomes smaller, and the stress distribution of fiber inside and outside is uneven, which leads to the inconsistency of fiber cracking. In a word, the cracking function and strength of the thread are closely related to the twist, and the twist and twist direction depend on the needs of the product and post-processing, generally Z twist direction.
