Development and Brief Introduction of Polypropylene Fiber

The earliest development and utilization of polypropylene fiber began in 1960s. Compared with other common and widely used synthetic fibers such as polyester fiber and acrylic fiber, the development and utilization of polypropylene fiber started relatively late. At the same time, because of its small output and consumption, its application was not very extensive in the early stage. At present, with the continuous innovation of science and technology, the continuous research and development and upgrading of new textile materials, new processes and new technologies, the research and development and production of polypropylene fiber are gradually paid attention to and applied, especially in recent twenty years, its development speed is rapid, and it has gradually become a very popular new fiber in the textile field.
Polypropylene fiber is the trade name of polypropylene fiber, and it is a high polymer polymerized with propylene as monomer. It is a non-polar molecule. Polypropylene fiber has a light specific gravity of 0.91, which is 3/5 of cotton and viscose fiber, 2/3 of wool and polyester fiber, and 4/5 of acrylic fiber and nylon fiber. It has high strength, single fiber strength of 4.4~5.28CN/dtex, low moisture regain, little water absorption, basically the same wet strength and dry strength, and good wicking, good wear resistance and resilience. However, from the analysis of its macromolecular structure, its stability to light and heat is poor, it is easy to age, and its softening point is low (140℃-150℃). At the same time, its molecular structure lacks groups that are compatible with dye molecules, so its dyeing performance is poor. (At present, at the spinning source of fibers, various kinds of bright polypropylene fibers can be made by adding color masterbatch.)
