Firefighters’ Protective Equipment-Fire Safety Rope

At about 10: 10 am on May 3, 2020, a fire broke out in Qidi Kechuang Building in Linyi, Shandong Province, and a worker was trapped in the top floor construction. Fortunately, he tied a safety rope and escaped smoothly through the fire safety rope without being injured. Fire safety rope is one of the key components of anti-falling equipment for fire fighting, and it is only used by firefighters to carry people in fire fighting and rescue, flying rescue and disaster relief or daily training. Safety ropes are woven from synthetic fibers, which can be divided into light safety ropes and general safety ropes according to the design load. Generally, the length is 2 meters, but also 3 meters, 5 meters, 10 meters, 15 meters, 30 meters and so on.

I. Design requirements

(1) Safety ropes shall be made of raw fibers.

(2) The safety rope shall be of continuous structure, and the main load-bearing part shall be made of continuous fibers.

(3) The safety rope should adopt sandwich rope structure.

(4) The surface of the safety rope shall be free from any mechanical damage, and the whole rope shall be uniform in thickness and consistent in structure.

(5) The length of safety rope can be tailored by the manufacturer according to the requirements of users, and should not be less than 10m. Both ends of each fire safety rope should be properly closed. It is advisable to adopt rope ring structure, and sew 50mm with thin rope of the same material, heat seal at the seam, and wrap the seam with tightly wrapped rubber or plastic sleeve.

Second, the performance index of fire safety rope

(1) Breaking strength

The minimum breaking strength of light safety rope should be greater than 200N, and the minimum breaking strength of general safety rope should be greater than 40N.

(2) Elongation

When the load reaches 10% of the minimum breaking strength, the elongation of the safety rope should be between 1% and 10%.

(3) Diameter

The diameter of safety rope should be not less than 9.5mm and not more than 16.0 mm. The diameter of light safety rope should be not less than 9.5mm and less than 12.5mm;; The diameter of general safety rope should be not less than 12.5mm and not more than 16.0 mm.

(4) High temperature resistance

After the high temperature resistance test at 204℃ and 5℃, the safety rope should not appear melting and coking.

Third, the use and maintenance of fire safety rope

(1) Use

When using the escape rope, one end of the escape rope or the safety hook should be fixed to a solid object first, or the rope can be wound in a solid place and hooked with the safety hook. Fasten the safety belt, link it with the 8-shaped ring and the hanging buckle, extend the rope from the big hole, then bypass the small ring, open the hook door of the main lock and hang the small ring of the 8-shaped ring into the main lock. Then descend along the wall.

(2) Maintenance

1. The storage of fire safety ropes shall be subcontracted and classified, and the type, tensile strength, diameter and length of the built-in safety rope shall be marked in the obvious position of the rope package, and the label on the rope body shall not be removed;

2. Check once every quarter to see if there is rope damage; If it is stored for a long time, it should be placed in a dry and ventilated warehouse, and it should not be exposed to high temperature, open flame, strong acid and sharp hard objects.

3. Tools with hooks and thorns shall not be used during handling to avoid scratching and damage;

4. The storage time of unused safety ropes should not exceed 4 years, and it should not exceed 2 years after use.
