Types of climbing ropes

If you are an outdoor mountain climber or rock climber, then you must know something about your life rope. Qingdao Haili is here to introduce three different kinds of climbing ropes or climbing ropes. They are power rope, static rope and auxiliary rope. There are great differences between these three kinds of ropes in terms of actual structure and use requirements.

Power rope: (main rope) is the core of the whole climbing protection system, which runs through the combination line of climbers, protection points and protectors. The main rope is an indispensable lifeline in rock climbing protection. Only the main rope that has passed UIAA or CE inspection and has its certification mark can be used, and the main rope with unknown history is not used. The design standard of power rope in UIAA standard: an 80KG climber falls off when the impact coefficient is 2, and the impact force on himself does not exceed 12KN (the stress limit of human body, the human body can bear the impact force of 12KN in a short time on the experimental surface), the elastic coefficient of power rope is 6% ~ 8%, and the 100 m power rope can be extended by 6 ~ 8m when the force is 80KG, so that the climber will get a buffer when falling off. To achieve this goal, it depends on the elasticity of the main rope. The power rope like bungee cord can absorb sudden impulse. The power rope can be divided into single rope, pair rope and double rope.

Static rope: It is used together with protective belt and steel rope in hole exploration and rescue, but now it is often used in high-altitude downhill, and even can be used as top rope protection in rock climbing halls; The static rope is designed to have as little elasticity as possible, so it can hardly absorb the impact force; Besides, static ropes are not as perfect as power ropes, so the elasticity of static ropes produced by different manufacturers and different countries and regions may be very different. .

Auxiliary rope: auxiliary rope is a general term for a large class of ropes that play an auxiliary role in climbing activities. Their structure and appearance are not much different from those of the main rope, but they are much thinner, generally between 2 and 8 mm, and are mainly used for nooses and knots. The length of the auxiliary rope depends on the activity requirements of each region, and there is no uniform specification. The diameter of the rope is 6-7 mm, the weight per meter is not more than 0.04 kg, and the tensile force is not less than 1,200 kg. The length is cut according to the purpose. The raw materials are the same as the main rope, which is used for self-protection, protection with various auxiliary knots on the main rope, crossing the river by rope bridge, transporting materials by traction rope bridge, etc.

These are the three main climbing ropes and climbing ropes. Everyone should carefully understand the difference between these ropes. Choose different suitable ropes in different situations, because the tension and elasticity of power rope, static rope and auxiliary rope have their own characteristics.
