What is carbon fiber?

Carbon fiber material is special for the first two materials, which has both elegant and strong characteristics of aluminum-magnesium alloy and high plasticity of ABS engineering plastics. Its appearance is similar to that of plastic, but its strength and thermal conductivity are better than that of ordinary ABS plastic, and carbon fiber is a conductive material, which can play a shielding role similar to that of metal (ABS shell needs to be shielded by another metal film). Therefore, as early as April 1998, IBM took the lead in launching a notebook computer with a carbon fiber shell, and it was also the protagonist that IBM had been vigorously promoting. At that time, the TP600 series that IBM Thinkpad was proud of was made of carbon fiber (600X in the TP600 series is still used up to now).

According to the data of IBM, the strength and toughness of carbon fiber are twice that of aluminum-magnesium alloy, and the heat dissipation effect is the best. If used for the same time, the shell of carbon fiber model is the least hot to the touch. One disadvantage of carbon fiber casing is that it will have a slight leakage inductance if it is not grounded properly, so IBM covers its carbon fiber casing with an insulating coating. According to the editor’s own usage, the 600X with carbon fiber shell does have leakage, but it only happens occasionally. The biggest feeling of carbon fiber is that it feels quite good, and the palm rest and shell are as comfortable as human skin. Moreover, it is very convenient to scrub. Pure water and paper towels can completely wipe the notebook like a new one. Moreover, the cost of carbon fiber is high, and it is not as easy to form as ABS engineering plastic shell, so the shape of carbon fiber shell is generally simple and lacks change, and it is also difficult to color. Notebooks made of carbon fiber are single in color, mostly black.
