What is nylon rope?

As the name implies, nylon rope is a nylon rope. The chemical name of nylon is polyamide, and the English name is Polymide (PA). Nylon is widely used and can be made into hard products and soft products with different properties. Its characteristics and nomenclature are determined by the specific number of carbon atoms in the synthetic monomer. For nylon rope, the fiber yarn made of nylon chips has undergone a series of technological treatments.

There are two kinds of nylon fibers: nylon 6 and nylon 66, commonly known as single 6-filament and double 6-filament. There are many domestic manufacturers of 6 silk, which are widely used and cheap. The cost of nylon 66 filament is high, because one of its main raw materials is still blank in China. The difference between single 6 and double 6 is that the heat resistance and wear resistance of 66 material are relatively high. There is little difference in tensile strength between them. Therefore, the double 6 material is generally used for ropes with high technical requirements, such as starting rope (a kind of rope used for starting small general machinery), climbing rope, safety rope, traction rope, industrial lifting rope and so on.

Although the early nylon rope was better than the rope made of natural fiber, it was harder and had greater friction. Because of its good elasticity, it is very inconvenient to use. The pinched nylon rope is gradually replaced by the braided nylon rope, which is a synthetic fiber rope specially designed for climbing. Modern knitted nylon rope is divided into core thread and rope sheath. The core thread in the middle is parallel or braided nylon thread, which provides most of the tensile strength and cushioning effect. The outer layer is covered with a smooth nylon rope sheath, which is mainly used to protect the rope core. Knitted nylon rope retains the characteristics of nylon rope, and eliminates the shortcomings of rough and hard nylon rope, too large friction and too good elasticity. The nylon rope is the only mountaineering rope that has been tested and approved by UIAA.
