What is polyester sewing thread?

Although sewing thread is not often used, it is always available, and we don’t know what material it is when we use it. Polyester sewing thread is the most used thread. Let’s learn more about it!

Sewing thread is the thread needed to knit clothing products. Sewing thread can be divided into three categories according to raw materials: natural fiber sewing thread, synthetic fiber sewing thread and mixed sewing thread. The sewing thread uses pure polyester fiber as its raw material.

Polyester sewing thread is a sewing thread made of polyester. Also known as high-strength thread, nylon sewing thread is called nylon thread, and we usually call it polyester sewing thread, which is twisted with polyester long fiber or short fiber, with wear resistance, low shrinkage and good chemical stability. But it has low melting point, easy to melt at high speed, blocking needle holes and easy to break wires. Polyester thread is widely used in garment sewing of cotton, chemical fiber and blended fabrics because of its advantages of high strength, good wear resistance, low shrinkage, good hygroscopicity and heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and no mildew and moth. In addition, it also has the characteristics of complete color, good color fastness, no fading, no discoloration and sun resistance.

The difference between polyester sewing thread and nylon sewing thread, polyester is lit up with a lump, emitting black smoke, and the smell is not heavy and elastic, while nylon sewing thread is lit up with a lump, emitting white smoke and pulling up with elastic smell. High abrasion resistance, good light resistance, mildew resistance, coloring degree of about 100 degrees, low temperature dyeing. It is widely used because of its high seam strength, durability and flat seam, which can meet the needs of a wide range of sewing industrial products.

In production and processing, polyester yarn is generally divided into the following three categories:

1. Woven yarn: Woven yarn refers to the yarn used to process woven fabrics, which can be divided into warp and weft. Warp is used as the longitudinal yarn of fabric, which has the characteristics of large twist, high strength and good wear resistance. Weft yarn is used as the transverse yarn of fabric, which has the characteristics of small twist, low strength and softness.

2. Knitting yarn: Knitting yarn is the yarn used in knitted fabric. The yarn requires high quality, small twist and moderate strength.

3. Other yarns: including sewing nylon thread, embroidery thread, knitting thread, miscellaneous thread, etc. According to different uses, the requirements for polyester yarn are different.
